We believe that access to management is one of the key services that a broker can provide to institutional investors and we work hard in this respect. Our equity analysts are our most important research resource, and we place strong emphasis on analysts who have broad experience in many cases involving time in industry.
Our criteria for evaluating a company are dedicated towards factors which should help institutional investors improve their returns. We are able to maintain an independent stance. We aim to be rigorous in our analysis, believing that a range of performance criteria need to be examined in evaluating any equity; earnings growth certainly but also cash flow and return on capital.
We tend to examine a basket of valuation criteria to provide as robust as possible a basis for our stock recommendations; the price/earnings ratio still has its place but alongside enterprise value (EV) to EBITDA, EV/sales, free cash flow per share, return on average capital employed and yield. We also attempt to understand company management, often the most fundamental variable factor in a stock, and the business model and industry conditions in making our assessments.
